More Catchin’ Up! Our October.

Hey, everyone! How are you all? I am going to try my darnedest to catch these posts up to real time before the New Year. Sometimes when I get behind on posts, I feel anxious. And not anxious to the fact that I’m not caught up for the sake of being caught up, but because I don’t want to miss recording these memories while they’re fresh. I was reflecting on this the other day while playing with Quinn, and I came to peace with the fact that I can’t record and remember every single moment. I’m grateful we live in a day where we can record much of it, but even if we didn’t, I realized the cumulative of these moments (remembered or forgotten) are the building blocks to the people we are and the beautiful bonds we share. Realizing this took off a lot of pressure to remember and record it all. Does that make sense?
Enough of my rambles! Let’s get into the stuff that made up a beautiful October 2023.  October 4th we spent some time playing in the sandbox. Moose tore up the lining to the sandbox when we weren’t looking (the older child was apparently having a rebellious phase). We’ll have to replace the lining next year, but it held up for now!

DJ’s birthday was that week, so on October 5th Quinn and I ran to the store to get some gifts for DJ. Long gone are the days of me being prepared weeks ahead… for anything, lol. I also found this Brown’s 75th Anniversary wine I added to his gifts. We ended up saving it for a big Brown’s win a few weeks later. Woot woot!

October 6th was DJ’s official birthday! He requested cacio e pepe, one of his favorites, for dinner. I was happy to whip it together, as it really is one of the easiest recipes out there!

Oh, and chocolate chip cookies for dessert, of course!

That evening we went to the senior night for my younger sister-in-law. We are so deeply proud of her, but it is incredibly hard to believe she’s a senior!

Quinn expelled all her toddler energy playing in the little grassy area off to the side of the stands.

October 7th we had a couch delivered (the brown one). We finally have two couches in our living room. I was pretty stoked about this find- we got it on sale from Ashley Furniture.  (P.S. we have hung our pictures since then, ha!).

That evening, DJ was out of town, so my friend, Rachel, stopped by to hang out with me and Quinn. We ordered some delicious eats from On Tap and then chatted the night away.

This pic was just too joyful not to share, stains on my pants and all! lol.

October 8th, I changed out the dying flowers for some sunflowers.

We also spent some time outside soaking up the blissful day.
October 9th things cooled off fast. Quinn fell asleep in the stroller…probably for the first time ever? That cold, fresh air did her in.

That afternoon we got crafty with some edible finger paints. I’ve been trying to do a craft time every day- either with a coloring book, stickers, or painting. Some days she’ll sit there for a while and other days she’s done in 0.2 seconds, just depends.

October 11th, we spent some time at a park. Gosh, this is such a fun age.

October 12th, we went to Clair’s to hang out with her and her kids. We enjoyed some matcha and breakfast sandwiches while the kids ran wild.

Clair has horses next door, so I’m pretty sure Quinn just assumes everyone has horses as neigh-bors. Ha! (Yes, I use that joke all the time now – thank you, Bex!).

Back to our own ponies. Did I mention I talked to their owner while he was tending to them? He explained they are actually miniature horses and their names are Tinkerbell, Reggie and Cash. He gave us the go-ahead if we ever wanted to feed them carrots or apples too! Quinn enjoyed picking the crab apples off the tree in this picture all fall and occasionally would share them with her horse friends.

October 13th, we packed up the car to get ready to leave the next day for Traverse City.  Quinn found a cozy spot in the front seat? (Don’t worry, car was very much off, ha).

On October 14th, we headed to TC to see my grandparents! It would be a short trip, but I was dyin’ to see them. While Quinn rarely uses a carrier anymore, she does when we’re in the airport. It’s tremendously helpful!

Quinn fell asleep soon after we arrived, so I just let her sleep in my carrier.

We ordered pizza hut for everyone. I still think Pizza Hut is some of the best chain pizza. Although, Jet’s still has #1!

Quinn was so sweet with them <3. It was a special time.

October 17th was our day at Szalays! That evening I made some enchiladas (Another recipe from Feeding Littles). This was one of my favorite recipes yet!

October 18th, we messily played with paints using a pumpkin and “stamping” the mini pumpkin on paper. It was just a pure mess, but still fun!

This was our first fall in this house, and I just relished watching the leaves change.

October 19th, I had a hair appointment. I decided to go back to close to natural so I don’t have to get it highlighted again for a long time. I miss my blonde though. Isn’t that how it always goes?! I ordered Jimmy John’s which is right next to the hair salon- mmmm mmmm!

October 20th, I ordered Bruegger’s Bagels for me and Quinn. I was craving a bagel breakfast sandwich so badly, and this delivered. (Literally and figuratively).

Our craft this day was putting bee stickers in their beehives (Leftover from her birthday party). Don’t mind Moose scavenging in the trash in the back… the stinker!

October 21st, I made some healthier pumpkin cookies for breakfast. I have to make these again! They were so good, even when my sister was here she asked for the recipe (which at the moment, I cannot find- but I’ll do some digging!).

Later that day we went to Ramseyer Farm!

October 22nd, I made some cheesy, veggie egg bites before church. We’ve gotten in such a great groove with going to church that when we miss a weekend, it feels off. I hope to get more involved soon with a Bible study of some sort.

This was peak colors.

For dinner October 24th, I made wraps with lentil patties, tomatoes, tzatziki, tabouleh and avocado.

While making dinner, I’ll often put on Ms. Rachel for 30 mins or so to get everything whipped together. This evening, Mr. Moose was being a snuggle bug with Quinn. The sweetest!

October 27th started all the Halloween festivitiesOctober 31st, actual Halloween, we just took it easy at home. We started the day out with a craft. Also peep the pouch on the table- I love these because they’re BPA free and reusable. Win-win.

Still taking full advantage of pumpkin season, we enjoyed some pumpkin waffles the morning of November 1st. These were from guess where? Yep, Feeding Littles cookbook!

They were a hit!

That morning was also the first snow of the season!

Oh, that reminds me, I’ve got to get this girl some real snow boots!

Following breakfast, we went to story time at the library then played in their kids’ zone after.

Moose found an… um, interesting, position to sleep in for his afternoon nap. Haha.

All of October, we had lots of fun learning colors. She has an Easter book with a different colored bunny on each page, and she’ll bring something in the room that matches the bunny. Such a fun little way to learn! We also sorted colors in various different ways.

Quinn also is loving stickers right now, and I found these decal stickers at Walmart that go on without leaving a sticky mess.

November 2nd, we had lots of fun playing with the leaves in the yard.

Whoops Mom accidentally got her in the face with that one!

November 3rd, we started the morning with some cheesin’ and some cheese!

Will go through our November next!

<3,

Mackenzie

  1. Quinnie is a big girl now! She is fantastic. Your food looks so good, I will have to get your cookbook. What a great month!!

  2. Those teeth are coming in handy for pizza and bagels and always a smile on her face. 🙂 Moose really is getting comfy on the couch in that one pose – made me smile! And I had to smile earlier when you told us about the torn sandbox liner because “the older child was apparently having a rebellious phase!”

  3. It’s a pretty solid dad-joke. 😉 I just love seeing Moose and Quinn’s relationship grow. He’s going to be her best friend for a very long while. 🥰

  4. I love your posts!!!! We are sometimes the same person. I understood your sentiments perfectly. My reflection is that because of our digital age, I believe we feel pulled to document it all whereas even when Matt and I began dating, there was not a way to except to journal. Cell phone photos were terrible, and I didn’t carry a camera around with me. So sadly, we don’t have a lot of photos, and some memories are already fuzzy. 🙁 But with that said, it’s the feelings and emotions that we store forever, just as you said. It’s the bonds and actual wiring of the brain that keeps us close to those we love. Deep in a way, but I had to share because I was nodding to how you feel anxious but in the sense of not wanting to blink and miss anything. Fact is we will feel we could be more present even when we were.

Anyways, I so love Quinn’s smile!! We honestly have the happiest girls there ever were. Seeing Rachel cuddle with Ansley brings me as much joy as seeing Moose with Quinn. Their best friends right now have fur. <3 You are making stellar meals! I planned to make those pumpkin waffles but never did. You better believe I will this weekend, and I need to make the enchiladas!

I just love Quinn's clothes. Stylish girl!

Those fall leaves, heart eye emoji! I can never get enough. You are so blessed with a beautiful home and location!

Ans is *obsessed* with cheese, so we start many mornings with it! Today she had cheddar. She asks for, "cheese please", and it's heart melting. I'll try to send you a video.

I wish you a beautiful last Thursday of the year!

    1. Oh where to begin?! Thank you tons for this comment! I’m so glad you get it, and wow, you described exactly what I was trying to say perfectly!! 💕

Yes they are!!! I knew having a pet would be good for her, but I didn’t anticipate just how sweet their relationship would be! I’m so glad Rachel seems to be doing well & it’s so cute the way Ansley clearly adores her ❤️. Oh I hope you enjoy the meals as much as we did!

Thank you, friend ! I missed these Ohio autumns!

Yessss same! That’s so cute, would love to see that video!

Hope you have a beautiful last Friday of the year too 😊

  5. Oh how I long for those gorgeous, warm October days you beautifully captured. I just read these and smile smile smile and all the adorable Quinn photos, that girl is so photogenic. Thanks for these treasured blogs! Love you all.

  6. I always love seeing the little fashionista’s latest ‘fits and this post had an outstanding lineup! The knit hat, the dress (?) with a faux (?) fur collar, the striped sweater, the whole library ensemble…

I love the look in her eyes in the picture of you two drinking from your cups together.

I’m going to have to borrow that Feeding The Littles cookbook from the library just for myself!! Those enchiladas!!!

    1. Hi Jinjer!!! How are you?! Aww thank you- I’ll pass on the kind words to my lil’ fashionista ;). I will say the best place to find clothes is TJ Maxx – very cute and so affordable!

She’s my buddy 🥰. Although yesterday I didn’t realize my coffee was near her on the counter and she stole a sip before I got it from her 🤦🏼‍♀️. She seemed to like it too! At least it was half caff.

Seriously, I have been so impressed with the recipes! At this rate my goal is to make everything in it!

Happy New Years, friend ! ❤️❤️
