Halston’s Graduation!

I am so excited to share this post!! A couple weekends ago, my baby sister, Halston, graduated from University of Cincinnati & I was so thankful I was able to watch her walk across the stage!!

Starting from the beginning…

On May 2nd, I ran six-ish miles before heading to the airport at 10 am to fly into OH for her graduation and also her bridal shower. DJ had to work all weekend, unfortunately, so couldn’t come along. He was missed somethin’ fierce <3 Anyway- I packed all my food for the travel day so I wouldn’t have to pay the exorbitant prices at the terminal. Since realizing you can take real food through security, it has been such a game changer! I just use my insulated lunch box and load it up with all the noms. Occasionally I do get stopped through security with it, but they always give the green light once they know what it is.

My go-to for the travels is a sweet potato, black bean burger, hummus, Fage, and whatever veggies might go bad that I can roast up and then throw in.

They also had a See’s Candy kiosk that you know I could not resist. I also didn’t know what flavor I’d be in the mood later, so I just decided to get one of each (totally justified buying these since I packed the rest of my food). 😉

On the plane itself I got hungry again so ate a Fage yogurt with PB2 (my neighbors were so confused what powdery substance I was pouring in there, haha). It is super high in protein so helps keep me full for a couple hours. I also nibbled on some popcorn and protein bars as well as raw veggies I had packed later on in the trip.

I had a layover in Chicago (got delayed by about an hour as we always do there), and then finally arrived in Cincy around 9:30 pm. My mom picked up me and Pete- who arrived exact same time I did since he was delayed too- (love when that works out) & we headed to the cutest little Airbnb. Even after the long day of travel, I felt so wired. No matter what, I can never sleep the first night I change time zones. I read my book most of the night while occasionally thinking just mayyyybe I could fall asleep, but then 20 mins later of trying to snooze I’d just started reading again. I think I finally fell asleep around 6:30 am and maybe got an hour or hour and half of sleep total. Hello, insomnia. When I was in India I don’t think I slept for three days straight- time change and jet lag just really messes me the heck up.

On the morning of May 3rd, my mom so kindly went out and got us all coffee (BLESS HER). And y’allll this joe from Deeper Roots Coffee (a non for profit coffee company), was one of the best cafe au laits I’ve ever had. You know that super smooth first sip that just hits your soul? Every sip of this was just like that 😍 After chugging that down I felt like I was ready to face the day!

Here is me, the beautiful smarty pants, and my momma! We got a picture before the humidity attacked. (And man did it attack! Lol).

Aaaand guess where we were able to go to breakfast before graduation?! First Watch!!! This was my favorite breakfast spot before moving to CA, and I stinkin’ miss it! I was stoked when Hal suggested we go. Also, we saw this sign driving in– best billboard ever!

50753bc3-5766-4603-96e3-2719301e9eb9

We deemed it our Mother’s Day brunch since we wouldn’t be able to celebrate on the day of. We have grown so flexible with holidays over the years and it’s become fun to celebrate on our own watch! When you don’t have expectations, you can’t become frustrated- so we never set expectations and learn to “be like Gumby” as my mom has always reminded us growing up. The idea is to go with the flow when you can’t control things or make them fit into a certain peg & you’ll avoid a lot of frustration. The best of memories sometimes come in spontaneity and the originality of an experience (such as celebrating holidays on “non” holiday days 😉 ).

Coming out of my contemplative dialogue- I see First Watch has added dairy free creamer! That’s fun!

The boys split a platter of their million dollar bacon. I couldn’t help but capture the beautifully plated strips.

Although the menu has an abundance of new items I would like to try, my stomach was off from the lack of sleep and travel, so I stuck to my tri-ed and true Tri-athlete–It hit the spot! Next time I’m orderin’ their salmon tzatziki toast and lemon blueberry quinoa pancakes. For now, I’ll continue to live through Kori’s awesome pics of her visits. Although, they do have them in Austin which makes me oh so happy!

The graduation was held at Fifth Third Arena. I have never been to a graduation this massive before! Ha, I say that like going to graduations is like going to the movies. I’ve only been to maybe three other graduations in my life.

We had a hard time finding a place, but Kevin, her fiancé, scoped out the room and found us the best seats in the house.

There were soo many graduates! There is truly something about the energy at a graduation that is thick with emotion, pride and hope. It’s like an inspiring, nostalgic, and bittersweet electric current is rippling through the entire room.

Ahhh here she comes!!! You can easily spot her with her colorful sash for Latinos en acción.

da652aeb-f617-48f4-9d6f-93c4a628da26

Cue the tears- no seriously, I’m tearing up again writing this, hah.. I’m soooooo stinking proud of her.

5a87d0e4-5d2d-4503-adb2-c068afe9a131

She elegantly walked across the stage and didn’t fall! Woohoo! Go Sis!

550e1afc-ab89-4136-9f4f-814331b2f922

After we walked around the campus for pics. I love her cap- it totally embodies what she is all about. Oh, and for those wondering she graduated with two majors (NBD!)- International Business and Finance-and a minor in Spanish. She also got a full ride for law school and aspires become an immigration lawyer. Yes, she is a bossss lady, and I am ecstatic to see the way she continues to change lives in the best way.

^The fam bam.

After we went to celebrate at Halston’s Favorite restaurant- The Cheesecake Factory! Ya can never have a bad meal here. The rest of Kevin’s family joined us too!

My mom and I split their beet and avocado salad with glazed beets, avocado, fresh orange, arugula, and honey yogurt sauce and their salmon. Both were so scrumptious- the beet & avocado in particular was just such a lovely conglomeration of flavors. I wanna try to make this at home sometime!

They even brought Hal her cheesecake with a “Congrats” on it. So sweet! We all enjoyed bites of various cheesecakes before heading out.

On our way out we spotted this Cincinnati Bearcat and of course had to get a pic with Hal next to it!

The whole familyyy! (Minus Deej). My hair was flat-out done by this point- flat being the operative word, haha.

62d1d915-ab73-4658-b3d7-6b732ee83fb9

We all went back to the AirBnb and sat around the fire while listening to fascinating stories from Kevin’s parents from living in Peru, discussed the upcoming wedding,  laughed a lot, and even learned Bachata (a type of dance) from Kevin’s mom. I gotta practice a bit more before the wedding !

e224f3b1-3f06-42d8-af8f-cb300e5ff29f

That evening I slept so much better than the one before. I fell asleep listening to the audiobook of Where The Crawdads Sing. I love it so far!

In the morning of May 4th I went for a nice run around the area of Hyde Park. It was one of those runs that I think will stay with me. So much joy and excitement surrounded this weekend, and that run cemented those adrenaline filled emotions into my memory. The area was captivating and picturesque too. I especially adored the way the morning dew drops clung to these purple blooms.

9da1f432-66db-4dea-939a-0d5060b366fc

I had to stop several times to take in the seemingly illustrious home fronts and historic schools.

Once we all returned and got ready for the day we were ready for some coffee & breakfast. We walked across the street to The BonBonerie Cafe- the cutest little french cafe I ever did see! They have a garden entrance for their main cafe and also an adjacent bakery. We had to stop in both, naturally.

b721fb20-a2d3-4633-956a-0f2ba94cebdb6ca89d35-4c0c-4967-a094-50f72a28f75f55f4d973-61ff-4d81-9f38-96df7a4a05af2f87cddd-5f78-4c56-868b-d67984bd96ef8b2cc657-71f5-4865-8c53-3500b6580b63

There is a special little area for tea time too. I saw moms coming in with their daughters all dressed up. It was adorable.

053b8fee-287b-46bf-b1e9-2f92e81241d6

Of course I got a cafe au lait. It was perfect. The two cafe au laits I had that weekend were two of the most memorably delicious– Cincy knows how to do their coffee!

86ce5191-b002-43ff-8529-219a76dae8c2

Next stop: Bridal shower!

The Bridal Shower took place in Strongsville, OH (close to Cleveland), so we drove that afternoon from Cincy to CLE (about three and a half hours).

Question for you:

  • Favorite Cheesecake Factory cheesecake flavor? Mine is probably their Oreo Dream X’treme. I love their tiramisu & vanilla bean too (I am usually anti-vanilla anything, but their vanilla is so creamy and delicious!).

Cookies, Curry Pizza & a Donut Bar!

Hey hey!!! How are ya?! This post is the beginning of highlights from the last couple weeks in between school and work, aka food pics. Let’s just dive right in, shall we? On January 20th we got back around midnight from the race and went straight to sleep just exhausted. On January 21st we luckily both had some time to recover. DJ had a day off work & I just worked on school assignments all day while also unpacking and doing laundry. I woke up ravenous and craving carbs. I made a big bowl of oatmeal with mini wheats and peanut butter. Mmmm!

img_8785

In the evening we watched Bachelor, and of course, had to have our Tollhouse cookies accompany us!

img_8786

Fairlife is hands down the best chocolate milk around. This & the cookies together is our favorite combo.

img_8787

January 22-the 23rd I just did tons of school work morning to night and on the 24th I went to Boys and Girls Club in the afternoon. They had all their homework done already, so I helped one of the girls create a restaurant menu (they have popsicle sticks to pull with fun ideas to pass the time if they finish their homework up)- it was so cute seeing her thought process and preferences! She wanted it to be a Pizza buffet and named it “Pizza More”. We served gelato AND Ice cream.. she felt it was very important to serve both, hehe.

January 25th was the same, but I captured a picture of our dinner of scallops, brown rice, and roasted beets. I am on a roasted beets kick right now!

img_8789

January 26th I completed my first run after recovering from the race! In the evening, DJ and I decided to have an easy date night. We went to Curry Pizza House to try some unique ‘za! Indian food & pizza combined- sounded like heaven to me!

img_8798img_8799img_8800img_8801

We grabbed our pizzas and headed home. We were excited to see they included jalapeño ranch dressing. If ya haven’t tried it yet- ya gotta! I’m from the midwest, so pizza + ranch is a true delicacy in my book.

img_8802

We put in an order for their their house Desi garlic sticks with red onion & green chilis. So yummy.

img_8803

We ordered a large pizza- half and half: DJ tried the Chili Paneer with curry sauce, cheese, bell peppers, diced tomatoes, red onion, masala paneer, green onions, and fresh cilantro with chicken added. My half was Aloo Chaat with red sauce, marinated potatoes, mint, red onion, cheese, and fresh cilantro with mushrooms added. We weren’t sure what to expect flavor wise, but this definitely worked! Highly recommend trying curry pizza out if you like Indian food *heart eyes*.

We watched the movie, The Hate You Give while eating. I just finished up the book- and wow oh wow was it gripping. The movie was very well done & true to the story too. It’s one of those books that I think everyone should read (or at least see the movie)- it’s heavy, but so important. Thanks for the recommendation, Katy!

img_8847

On January 27th I woke up around 6:00 am to make sure I had time to get to Starbucks before church.

img_8850

And off we go, Cafe au Lait in hand!

img_8851

This particular Sunday we set up a donut bar for the guests! It was so much fun!

img_8852img_8853img_8854

I came back from church and decided I wanted to re-do my entire paper I had spent the previous week formulating. SO, I spent from about 11:30 am to 9:30 pm at night reworking the assignment. Good times.

In the evening I made some scallops with roasted zucchini, rice, and Koop’s Arizona Heat. This has been a go-to combo lately!

img_9271

On January 28th, I submitted that paper and took a big ole’ breath of relief. For lunch I had a purple sweet potato with Fage, avocado, dolmas, hummus and red pepper flakes. I then started the next assignment for the week. Of course in the evening, we watched Bach!

img_8855

January 29th was same ol’ same ol’.

In the evening of January 30th, I put together a super simple dinner of gnocchi with creamy tomato basil sauce and fresh shredded gruyere cheese.

img_8856img_8857img_8858

This gnocchi was wonderful!! TJ’s for the win, yet again.

On January 31st I finished up some discussion forums in the morning then went to Boys and Girls club in the afternoon. On my way, I saw this adorable little bug, and the whole scene reminded me of a scene from a cartoon, like something you would see in Up.

img_8859

In the evening I made a big salad for myself with all the veggies, hummus, and a bean burger and put together Garlic Naan with Lamb Vindaloo for DJ from guess where? Yep- you got it- TJ’s.

img_8861img_8860

Friday February 1st I spent the whole day working on assignments, but I did get some blogging in I believe! On Saturday morning of February 2nd I woke up extra early, ran about eight miles, and then went with DJ to meet our campus pastors at Voyager Coffee in San Jose at 10:30 am. I’ve been here a couple times before, and I love their lattes. You can tell they use high quality beans for sure.

img_9281img_9282img_9283img_9286

I just love spending time with our Pastors. We caught up and chatted a bunch about this upcoming year and just life in general.

After coffee we met up with some other close friends from church for dim sum! Woohooo!! Twice in a couple months! We went to Mayflower in Saratoga.

img_9287

The menu was very different from the last time we tried it, but still got a bunch of good dishes to share. I tried jellyfish for the first time (first picture) and really enjoyed it! The Lazy Susan in the middle was fun to pass food around!

img_9288

I really enjoyed their tea too. I didn’t get a bunch of pictures, but it was great to spend time with everyone & the food was pretty good. Not quite on the level of City View– but that place is considered one of the best in the entire Bay!

img_9289

In the afternoon DJ told me their was a gorgeous rainbow outside- luckily I caught it in time! No matter how old you are I feel like rainbows are still exciting to see.

img_9290

For dinner I made DJ a steak with birds eye veggies and brown rice. I had a salad out of my massive bowl, or trough as we joke, with pan seared tempeh, hummus, and tons of veggies.

img_9291img_9292img_9293

February 3rd the hospitality team put together this fun Super Bowl breakfast. The brown dishes are shaped like footballs!

img_9294

The rest of the day was school, school, break to do a blog post, school. I picked up DJ some Buffalo Wild Wings for the game- his tradition on Super Bowl day, haha. Even though I was working on some assignments, it was really nice just sitting next to DJ and “watching” the game (but really only commercials). I’ll make a part 2 for the rest of the recap!

Questions for you:

  • Feelings about ranch on pizza? I know you have a strong opinion either way 😉
  • Favorite kind of milk or chocolate milk?

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!!

Kels & Kenz Take on the Bay: Part 3!

Hey ya!! Welcome to our third Installment of Kels & Kenz Take on the Bay! If you missed the other posts, you can find Part One and Part Two in these links. So far we have only covered 1 entire full day in those two posts, and it truly may take until the end of September to recap it all, haha.

Let’s just jump in shalllz we? After we hopped off the Ferry, Kels and I needed something to wake us up a bit from the lull of the boat. We decided there was no time like the present to grab Peet’s! We both got Half- caff almond milk cafe au laits. Unfortunately, the barista didn’t do a great job with the milk, so it was flat and subpar compared to usual. I was disappointed for Kels that it was her first Peet’s experience, but at least she was able to try it! And the caffeine did the trick!

img_1961-1

We still were a bit chilly walking outside and hungryyyyy! We had dinner reservations at 9:15 pm, so we decided to get a little appetizer (it was about 6 pm at this point). We headed to a BL (bucket list) location- Boudin Bakery! I had never tried their bread, but they are famous for the freshest and greatest sourdough.

On our way we stumbled across a Ben and Jerry’s carnival. I just love how there is always something going on in the city!

img_1971-1

Kels did the truffle toss and won! woot woot!

img_1962-1

We happily munched down our little free ice cream samples (YUM) then continued along Embarcadero to Boudin.

img_1963-1

Finally- made it!!! Check out these fun shapes made from the bread…

img_1964-1img_2040**waiting a half hour to get a seat** This place is poppin’!

And finally finally– time for the famous sourdough bread bowl with clam chowder! It was PHENOMENAL. It was the perfect snack to warm us up after weaving through the thick San Franciscan fog. (aka Karl, someone named our fog. Haha).

img_1965-1

So we were a leeeetle bit nervous when we were eating our sourdough bowl because Kels’ phone was dead, mine had 1% remaining, and our emergency charger broke. We were at least 4 miles from our hotel and were planning on Ubering or Lyfting back…. we both had blisters from walking in our heeled shoes all day and were freezing in our light clothes we worn to wine country. Once we finished up the grub, I called the Lyft with the 1% I had left and we got the pickup JUST in time before my phone died. Thaaaank you, Lord! That would have been a brutal 4 mile walk (it felt like it was in the low 40s by this point).

We arrived to our hotel for the evening! We decided to stay in the city since our reservations were super late and DJ had a late game anyways . Also, we found a reservation at the Sir Francis Drake at a wonderful deal! The hotel was named after the Elizabethan era sea captain and was founded in 1928. It has quite the stunning history- you can read here if interested (or if you may find yourself staying at this historic landmark someday).

img_1973

At any time, there is a greeter dressed in the archetypal costume standing out front the hotel.

The lobby was spectacular- a true historical feel, yet also feeling anything but antiquated.

img_2050img_2043

The room was so fun! It had bright reds, large 16th century inspired paintings, and was clean as can be for being such an “old” hotel. The ONLY issue we had during the stay was the slowness of the elevator. It was crazy slow – like a snail’s pace + molasses. But they did have signs all over asking for our patience while they remodeled/updated their elevators, so we couldn’t be too upset about it.

img_1975img_2041img_2051

We changed super fast after checking in. Check in took about 30 minutes, and by the time we were in the room it was about 8:45 pm. We had literally 15 minutes to change and get out the door to make our rezzy on time. We slapped on some touch up makeup, I used my “cruise” lip color that I haven’t used in a while, and we hit the road!

**middle school mirror pic** haha

img_2118

But in order to hit the road… we first had to run down 18 floors to make it to our Lyft ride on time (the elevator was not budging, so we resorted to whipping down the hotel’s staircase hoping he wouldn’t leave without us!).

We found our Lyft ride out of breath and practically sweating. The driver was so kind and understood about the elevator issue. We headed to another BL item for the evening. The ultimate ultimate BL item I have had on my list in bolds and italics (one day soon I will actually share the list here!). I knew Kels would appreciate it too! Drum roll please….. Foreign Cinema.

img_2044

The entrance is easy to miss, it is very tucked away in the shadows in the Mission District, but the minute you step through the doors you are in another world!

This restaurant is not your standard restaurant. It is a restaurant that takes you to Paris, under twinkling lights in the great outdoors. There are heaters to keep you nice and cozy and a foreign film to accompany your meal. It’s like being at a fancy drive in, dressed up, and eating superb nomz.

img_2045

We started with their Patio Spritzes. Kels had their strawberry infused lillet blanc & I tried their pamplemousse one. They were delicious- refreshing and light- exactly what we were craving.

img_2048

For an appetizer we shared their oysters- the most stupendous oysters of the trip. Every oyster throughout the weekend we tried was wonderful, but these were hands down the absolute best. I keep telling DJ I want to go here again just so he can try these!

img_2046

We then split the tuna tartare for our meal. It was magnificent. Bursting flavors. You cannot go wrong here!

img_2047Kels and I are both guilty people-watchers, so we quietly evaluated and tried to figure out the groups and couples around us. Humans are fascinating. It was too fun, and I think we missed our callings as psychologists (or psychopaths).

Time to turn in for the evening after a super fun night!

facetune_14-08-2018-15-59-01

In the morning of July 29th, we got up around 8:00 am and then drove back to Cupertino. We had some avocado toast then hit the road to make the 11:30 service for Church!

img_6732

I was excited to take Kelsey to our home church, Vive! It’s one of my favorite parts about living here, and I am always stoked when company stays over through a Sunday so we can go together, and I can introduce them to my church fam.

img_2052

Afterwards we went to none-other than the most ubiquitously mentioned restaurant on this blog… can ya guess it?

img_2054img_2055

Tammy met up with us and the three of us ordered all the classics to share. Starting with my fave- the French Garden omelette (with egg whites!). It has goat cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, avocado, mushrooms, and basil! It’s just too good. And their country potatoes are the also the best around (Although Los Gato’s Cafe’s potatoes  do vy for first place).

img_2056

Next, we had their tremendous crab cake benedict (although I have found a better one I will be sharing in a few posts 😉 ).

img_2057

And perhaps one of my favorite brunch dishes ever… the salmon benedict.

img_2137

& A side of their blueberry pancake

img_2058img_2059

Time to go hiking!!! We drove to the Redwoods in the Big Basin. The drive is treacherous and I was white knuckling the whole way down, but we made it! (if these look familiar it’s because I was here just a couple months ago with Tammy 🙂 ).

https://ohhiblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/img_0048.mov https://ohhiblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/img_0052.mov

img_2060

Kelsey had never seen Redwoods before, so this was a must for her trip here!

img_2070img_2061-1img_2064img_2063img_2065img_2067

It ended up being SWELTERINGLY HOT- in the nineties I believe, but we made it to the top!

img_2066img_2068

Jus’ hanging around

img_2069img_2071img_2072

We were parched when we returned. This water was liquid gold to us!

Our big simba baby water bottle . *Cue Circle of Life*

img_2073

On our way back we pulled off to the side of the road to an overlook and saw the most breathtaking view!

img_2121img_2074img_2075img_2076img_2077

https://ohhiblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/img_0180.mov https://ohhiblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/img_0181.mov

We headed home, and quickly became aware of how hungry we were!

We decided to knock off a third BL item and go to Palo Alto’s downtown to try sushirrito! (yep- a sushi burrito!).

img_2078img_2079img_2080img_2081img_2082

These were truly rawesome. We tried Geisha’s Kiss and the Latin Ninja. Holy cannoli guacamole- I am craving another. I need to try their Sumo Crunch wrap soon which is their famous one.

img_2083img_2084

To end the evening we walked around Main Street Cupertino, made a pit stop into Target for some sweets, and then decided to do dinner number 2!

img_2085

And where better than the revolving sushi bar, Kura?! You may remember “Kula” from the beginning of the blog when DJ and I went allll the time, but they recently changed the name to Kura. You can read how it works in this post if you are interested!

img_2086

It’s not the highest quality sushi, but it is always a fun experience!!! I loved watching Kels’ expression as the conveyor belt of sushi glided past us. We had our fill then called it a night to get a great night sleep before a big beach day!

Question for you!

  • Favorite brunch dish/ brunch restaurant?

There’s No Place Like Home: Part One

Heyyyya!!! I am splitting my Ohio trip into two parts so I don’t crash Rossy’s laptop, lol 😉 We took off for Ohio last Friday the 29th. I woke up around 4:45 am to squeeze in a few miles on the tready. Our flight was around 11: 45 am, and I had worked up quite the appetite by the time we had to go. I quickly grabbed a three bean salad and mixed green salad from Klein’s on the airport and ate a No Cow bar on the plane too for some extra protein. (still bitter they changed their formula, but they still keep me nice and full).

img_7378

Oh and of course had to snag a Cafe au Lait with almond milk from Dog Patch!

Home! 🏡

We caught up with DJ’s mom at the kitchen table like we always have since high school <3 One of the best parts of coming home! We ended the night by watching the latest Bachelorette all together.

In the morning I got up early pearly to get ready for the wedding. The time change always messes with me and after getting up at 4:45 am the day before, I was gonna need a lot of coffee! Mom B even stocked up my favorite Dave’s Killer bread and had some perfectly ripe avocados. She knows me well! That avocado toast tasted so good. Food and coffee alwayyys tase better at this house.

I brought my press on, jankey nails since mine are so darn short and I didn’t want to paint them. Welp, epic fail when I was short two nails! Haha.

img_7372

I whipped into the nearest CVS and grabbed a new pack. They are so long, but I didn’t want to mess with clipping them because I’d do a horrible job. Gotta just let the claws live sometimes, ya know?

img_7373

I deliberated which dress to wear and settled on this one (you can catch my options on my MIL’s new website and App Wear This One– I will explain more about this soon!).

img_7365

We went to a beautiful wedding after picking up my girl Rachel. Remember our cruise together?! We never got to say goodbye after accidentally separating at the airport so when we saw each other it was like “Goodbye! Hello!”.

On the car ride over we imagined worst case scenarios for if one of my nails were to pop off (the little press ons aren’t necessarily the strongest little suckers). We decided it would either be when shaking someone’s hand or at the reception and then the bride slipping on it. Totally normal convos to have on the way to a wedding, right?

As the send off, we all let off balloons outside the church. In San Francisco you would be beheaded if you dared let off balloons into the environment, haha. DJ and I were like, “Is this really happening?!”

In between the wedding, we picked up my sister from a local subway where she was meeting with a friend. Her poor car wasn’t starting, but my brother was able to come in the clutch for a repair. (Y’all it’s like the olden days- fam and friends within arms reach when ya need them, just loved it!).

We went to lunch at Burntwood Tavern, the favorite spot in town.

img_7370

Deej had their chicken sliders

img_7368

Rachel had their tater tots- and HOLY CANNOLI RAVIOLI, these are the best darn tater tots I have ever had. If I had to create a last meal these would be included.

img_7369

I went for their hummus and pita platter. It was a fantastic tide-me-over!

img_7367

So nice to see these two below. I haven’t seen Hal, my sister (In the middle) in over a year. I was ecstatic when I heard she was going to be in town for a couple days (She lives in Cincy).

img_7080img_7079img_7366

The food at the wedding was some of the best wedding food I have ever had!!! I had the macadamia salmon and DJ had their filet. Everyone raved about how wonderful the filet was (it’s hard to get a great meat cut at a wedding too!). And those potatoes- goodness gracious alive- I could live on those things.

My two besties in one picture. Rachel in the middle, Clair on the right. Ya might remember Clair from her own wedding last November <3

img_7081img_7082

We all danced our little hearts out all together. DJ cut a rug!

Here is the gorgeous bride, Ali. Ali and I were SUPER close in high school. It’s one of those relationships where we can easily just pick up where we left off.

img_7360

Here is a video I grabbed of us dancing, but the sound isn’t working for some reason?!!! Ugh, snapchat, come n’!

Late in the evening they had pizza, is there anything better?! Rach and I were quite excited.

In the morning of the 30th, DJ had to return to Cali for work around 7 am.

I went for a nice sixish mile jog and then Rach, Rachel’s Mom, MC, and I went to Cuyahoga Valley Church. This was the church we used to go to when we lived in Ohio. It was SO nice, gosh I miss that place.

I miss the simplicity of living in Ohio badly. When talking to my mom I was telling her how much I missed certain parts of living in OH (I wrote about some differences in my last post). She made a valid point- she said she was homesick the most when she was home. So true.

After church, we went for a scrumptious brunch in Cleveland. Since we are older now, I would like to go back and actually explore Cleveland. We never did growing up- we just stayed in our little town. DJ and I vowed we would do some more exploring next time we are there together!

anyway- I digress…the three of us decided on the Market Garden Brewery for brunchy perfection.

img_7359

I loved the decor- it’s industrial chic if I’ve ever seen it!

img_7358img_7357img_7356

MC tried their Bloody Mary (I snagged a sip! Mmmm mmm!).

img_7354

Rach and I savored their very generous in size mimosa flight! The flavors were fantastic- white peach, passion fruit, blood orange, & blackberry.

img_7351

I enjoyed their yummy avocado toast. I had a size of their potatoes and a poached egg to plop on top of it.

img_7355

MC and Rach split their Brisket Omelette with adobo braised short rib, fingerling potato, fresh avocado, queso fresco, fried pickled onions, cilantro. They said it needed a bit more umph of flavor, but the potatoes were awesome!

img_7350

They preferred the carnitas Benedict with 2 scratch english muffin, MGB progress pilsner braised pork carnitas, 2 soft poached eggs, salsa verde hollandaise, pickled red onions, cotija cheese, cilantro served with breakfast potatoes.

img_7349

After rolling ourselves out of the restaurant, we headed over to West Side Market. In alll my years of living in Ohio, I had never been here. Can ya believe it?!

It was HUGE- with seriously anything you can imagine. If when we move back here one day I am going to live at this place.

Feels like home <3

img_7348

When I say they have everything, I mean everything..

img_7346

After purchasing some fudge and continuing to nurse our food comas, we went to a friend of Rachel’s who had a sweet little new puppy. Cutest little puppy ever!!

img_7299

In the afternoon, I headed over to my brother’s house to spend some time with my niece and nephew <3 <3 Gosh I miss them. I hate that I’m the “far away” Aunt- but it makes me treasure truly every single second. They amaze me and I can’t believe I have the honor to call myself their Aunt.

This here is little Miss Baby Kate. Jack, my nephew, was running around and I didn’t have a chance to snag a picture, but next post I have some cute ones of him <3 (I know I need to chill on the heart usage but I can’t help myself).

The Aunts with their girl! Can ya tell we’re all related?

Maura, my sister in law, made these TASTY vegan buddha bowls. I recreated them immediately when I came home the best I could because they were so doggone delicious!!!

img_7297

After chillin’ with my family, giving the kids a bath and reading a bedtime story, we all hit the hay. Those little moments make my heart beat. I couldn’t love those two more than I already do.

In the morning I had the honor of putting little pigtails on this one and then seeing where the kiddos go for summer daycare/school.

img_7291

After, I drove to the local gym I used to attend and cranked out a few miles. I then went to Clair’s house for more baby snuggles with her little one, Jacob. He turned one this past week!

CAN. YOU. STAND. IT.

img_7290

We hung out, caught up, and kept a close eye on the rambunctious little booger above. We were going to do something outside, but it was in the nineties and promising rain. We ended up going to Target to try to find some clothes for Clair. It felt like middle school again….. except a baby in tow, tehe. It’s strange when you move away and then return how much feels the same, but so different all at once.

Once Clair’s husband Robby came home we went out for a nice dinner at …. guess where? Burntwood Tavern 😉

Clair opted for their Moscow Mule and I had a glass of Cab. Shocker, huh?

img_7289

Naturally, we had to split their taters again. I’m telling you— best darn tots I’ve ever tried. Napoleon Dynamite would have a field day.

img_7288

Clair had their delectable cedar plank salmon.

img_7286

With it being scorching hot out I decided on their salmon salad. I could eat this for every meal.

img_7285

We settled in for the evening with some wine to watch Bachelorette. It was a perfect day <3

I will do part 2 soon with all our 4th of July Festivities & lotsa great grub!
