We’re Moving! (Again)

Hi, everyone!! Just wanted to hop on here and share some news. This summer we will be moving to….

or shall I say back to…

Northeast OH-IO!!

Ohio is where DJ and I both grew up, and it’s where we met and started dating in high school. It’s been a while since we’ve lived there though- 10 years for DJ and 9 years for me. From Ohio we went to Indiana for college, then from Indiana we moved out to California. When we moved to California, I remember us both saying we couldn’t imagine moving back to the midwest, and at the time we believed that because we were so excited for a new adventure. But something in us has changed over the years, and we just feel drawn back. We have nieces and nephews lives we want to be more involved in, a lot of family and friends in Ohio, and we just miss it. It is home.

Right now, our plan is for this to be our *final* move for a long while, unless God has other plans, and we couldn’t be more excited. We are so grateful for the absolutely incredible years we have had living in California and Texas and would not trade them for the world. We still plan on traveling as much as possible too, and of course, making trips back to Texas to visit my mom and Pete. Being farther from them is easily the hardest part about this next move.

For now, we are focused on finishing up school while soaking up these months in Austin, and then will be hitting the road! DJ has a job lined up- mine is still TBD. I probably will try to take my boards as soon as I graduate and then will start applying as I finish up my endocrinology specialty certificate this summer. We still don’t know exactly where we will be living- but we know it’ll be Cleveland/Akron area.

We can’t wait to re-explore our hometown, and we just look forward to finding some stability ☺️. Guess I better also get back in the habit of saying pop instead of soda 😜

  1. I am so happy for you both Mackenzie !! Going home will be wonderful for you both. It will be hard being away from your Mom and Pete but you will have excuse to travel , especially in winter, right?! Best wishes to you both, Terri xo.

    1. Thank you, Terri!! And yesss, I love your thinking. Will definitely need an escape to Texas in the brutal winter months!

    1. Hi, Samantha!! Wow, how are you? It has been SO long. Thank you for your comment & that is too funny Canada says pop too- I had no idea!!

  2. It’s been awhile since I’ve stopped by but I couldn’t resist catching up re: your exciting news…I can hardly wait to learn more about your hometown as you explore its various food offerings, yum!

    1. Hi Kimberlee!! So good to hear from you, friend. How are you? Thank you for your comment- can’t wait to share about our adventures, we are very excited!

    1. Thank you, Taylor!! We will definitely miss Austin, but we always say we can visit! Soaking it all up now 🙂 Hopefully we can still meet up before the move- I know COVID really threw a wrench into socializing, but if you are up for it, hopefully we can meet up sometime this summer!

  3. That’s great news that DJ already has a job within a year of going back to grad school. Wow – you guys sure are flexible. I know you liked Austin, your church and the close proximity to your mom as well. But you two are always up for adventure and I hope you kept some cold-weather gear. 🙂

    1. Yes!! We are so thankful it is all working out. You are so spot on- I think this move has more emotions involved than the last couple because of all the reasons you mentioned– but at the same time we cannot wait to explore our city 🙂 A lot has changed in 10 years since we left there! And oh man, lol- great point- we may need to do a liiiiittle shopping spree prior to winter!

      1. Cleveland will be quite a change but you two are flexible and up for it. With any luck your church will remain online, so you can attend that way. I know you were pleased to find a branch in Austin after you left San Francisco. Yes, you can indulge yourselves – probably could pick up some great, end-of-season bargains now,

  4. I haven’t caught up with you in what feels like forever! I miss you and I noticed you either deactivated or outright deleted your insta 🙁 but anyway, nice to know you are doing well and that you have plans to move back to Ohio 🙂 I can totally see the need for stability and the need to be closer to home 🙂
I cannot wait to see what else you end up doing 🙂

    1. Rossy!!! I miss youuu! We need to exchange numbers to stay in touch! I did deactivate them for now – school has been really tough, and they were a distraction, plus it just really wasn’t great for me emotionally to be on there. But they still exist if I ever decide to pop back on. The worst part is being a bit out of the loop with everyone’s happenings! How are you?!?

Thank you for your comment and thank you sooo much for stopping in. It is really good to hear from you!! <3

      1. I miss you too!
And I totally understand, no worries. I can’t wait to read some of your previous blog posts (if you have any) to see what you’ve been up to!

We are doing well, thankfully! What about you guys??

      2. I’m so glad to hear!! Any updates with y’all? We are doing well too- it was a really hard year, as I know it was for everyone, but we still had some good times and things are really looking up now ☺️

      3. Congratulations!!! Those are huge changes!! DJ just moved to Ohio last weekend & I join him early August- but we have some planned trips to see each other throughout the summer. I just graduated & am adding on a specialty program this summer- which I love so far! Very busy- but all good!! Hope you are enjoying your new place and the family is doing well 🙂 I bet Ciel has gotten so big since I last saw him- where has the time gone?!

  5. Woohoo! This is such exciting news!
It is funny how life brings us full circle, and in ways we can’t quite imagine.
Another busy busy summer for you!

    1. Thank you tons, Ju-Lyn 🙂 I sooo agree- you know the old adage “Man plans, God laughs”— feels a bit applicable here. Never thought we would return, but here we both are with a strong desire to go back to our roots. Thankful we are on the same page about it though! And oh yes, I don’t think I can remember the last time I had a true relaxing summer, lol! At least the vitamin D gives an extra boost of energy 🙂

      1. Best laid plans, right?
So glad to hear you are both excited for the move. I’m sure your Mom & Pete will miss you loads though.

      2. Yes for sure! And we will miss them, but we are soaking up our time together now. We are thankful we have had so much awesome time together this last year. Hope you are having a great start to your weekend ☺️

      3. Aw thank you, friend. We are doing well!! Things have been hectic as ever, but all good hectic and now things are starting to slow down a tiiiiny bit 😊 How are you?

      4. Will you be able to have a more leisurely summer? When are you guys moving?

We are all well, all things considered. Just one day at a time.

      5. DJ just moved a couple weekends ago, and I join him in August 🙂 He is going to visit in a couple weekends though, so I’m counting down to that. Besides missing DJ horribly, I am loving this summer- still so busy. I started a specialty rotation I finish up in a couple months- and I loveeee all I am learning!! Soaking up every day.

I am so glad to hear things are going well overall for you. <3

      6. I can imagine missing DJ terribly – glad he’s visiting soon.

Do you get a break after this rotation at all??? Meanwhile, enjoy the learning and stay well!

      7. Thanks so much, Ju Lyn!! I plan on starting to apply for jobs, but I do have a few fun weekends planned right after I finish the semester 😊 I hope you’re having a great week!!

      8. The work just never really ends!!! But good to hear you have fun planned – looking forward to hearing all about it!

  6. Congratulations on your upcoming move!! I’m sure it’ll be wonderful to feel settled. Hope you had a fabulous week! xx

  7. LOL at pop vs. soda. I feel ya!! I’m happy you’re going to be closer to Pittsburgh… if you ever pop into the city, let me know 🙂 Congrats on this exciting new season!

    1. Thank you, Allie!! Ohh we will be so close! Definitely will have to meet up sometime 🙂 And same goes for you if you find yourself in OH!

    1. Kaci!! So good to hear from youu!! Hope all is well- I see another comment from you so I am going to eagerly jump over to that one 🙂
