Happy Friday one and all! Although..maybe Happy Saturday when you read this considering I am writing it Friday evening. I finished up everything I wanted to get done for today, so I figured why not share some favs?!
- It’s-It ice cream sandwich! On a podcast I was listening to, the host was raving about how tremendous these are. I have passed by It’s-It brick and mortar shop plenty of times on Interstate 280, but have never thought to pay it a visit.
This place was established in 1928 and has gained fame in San Francisco with this ice cream sandwich of vanilla ice cream in between two oatmeal cookies that are coated in dark chocolate. I was bummed we were going to miss out on this famous creation considering we wouldn’t have time to try them before we left. BUT.. while at Safeway (local grocery store), I stumbled upon them in the ice cream aisle!!!
I had high expectations… and it met every bit of them. Highly recommend tracking these down if you are the west coast. It’s unlike any other ice cream sandwich I’ve ever had before. YUMMMAYY.
2. Peets. I am soaking up every single last moment at Peets. I have gone nearly every day this week to study. The last day I knew I’d see my favorite barista, we exchanged numbers to stay in touch. I’ll miss her!! I gave her my blog name too- so if you are reading this- Hi, Connie! You make the best Cafe Au Laits in all the land! <3
Connie has been there from the beginning when I studied for my NCLEX before I was even a nurse. It was hard to say goodbye, but I will always be thankful to know her. She rooted us on through so many seasons & continues to do so. Endless learning & growth took place at Peets. It’ll always be way more than a coffee shop to me. (I know it’s sappy, but it’s true).
3. Living minimalistically <– dat a word? We got rid of so much while packing up & since our movers came Tuesday we have been living with the absolute bare minimum. I feel like having so little around really has cleared my head, made me more productive & focused. It makes me want to get rid of even more! (Pictured is my little study spot I made since we have no couches or chairs to sit on right now- hehe).
4. Tofu Tacos!! Yes, you read that right. When I first made these, I was a bit nervous how DJ would feel considering tofu is a bit spongier than meat. But he loved them! So much so he was still talking about them the next day.
Roughly estimated recipe: They are super simple to make- just sauté mixed peppers and white or yellow onion in a sauce pan over medium heat with minced garlic. Once caramelized add crumbled extra firm tofu with your choice of vegan (or regular) Mexican cheese. Then add your decided amount of taco mix (for a batch of taco seasoning : TBSP chili powder, 1 TBSP ground cumin, 2 teaspoons cornstarch, 2 teaspoons kosher salt, 1 1/2 teaspoons hot smoked paprika & 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper- sprinkle in as desired). Add a little bit of slice jalapeno for an extra nice kick!
5. Sunsets. The sunsets have been just gorgeous this week. I have tried to take moments away from the busyness to just enjoy a moment in awe of the beauty. God is the ultimate artist.

6 & 7. Sonicare electric tooth brush with extra soft bristles & activated charcoal toothpaste. Okayyy, this combo is a game. changer. It was time for me to upgrade my tooth brush & with all the tea I have been drinking lately I feel like my teeth are staining (weirdly, coffee doesn’t stain them – only tea?). I was a little skeptical about how activated charcoal would work, but WOWZA Mctrowza…. I woke up after using it in the evening and already noticed the stains were disappearing! The toothbrush is awesome too- it feels like it is thoroughly cleaning my mouth, but without any harshness on the gums.
8. Ok, a bit embarrassing to admit, but guys, I am lovin’ this season of The Bachelorette. I adore Hannah. I think this may be my favorite season yet actually. I don’t know any spoilers either, and I don’t feel like there is a clear front runner. Cannot wait to see what happens these coming weeks! I hear it’s wild…..
9. Nathanwpylestrangeplanet on Instagram (good luck saying that three times fast)… is my new favorite Instagram account. DJ showed it to me, and it basically is a couple of aliens that make parodies of humans through cartoons. They are ingenious & hilarious.
10. Always Be My Maybe. Sigh, I just loved this movie (even though it did take me over three weeks to actually finish it, lol). I am not a fan of chick-flicks usually. I typically think they are just so darn predictable… but this one.. this one I loved (even though it was just so darn predictable 🤪). I think it’s because it took place in SF & I loveeed all the local shots & references. I don’t know that I would have enjoyed it as much if we didn’t live in the Bay Area… but it’s so cute nonetheless & anything Ali Wong I am here for.

Oh we too have been loving this season of bachelorette, and I agree with you we all like Hanah! I think its because she seems so normal and just wants a normal happy life. Even my husband is hooked on this sesons’s bachelorette!! And he hates this series 😀. Oh and those sunsets this week in our area are spectacular! Doesn’t it feel like fall already? This past week I've been loving overnight oats since it helped use food up and was so easy to prep the night before then throw in my bag.

Now that I have looked over the ice cream sandwich choices of my dreams, I’m experiencing serious FOMO! 😉 Gahhh that looks so good!! Ice cream sandwiches are nostalgic for me. Whenever we would go to our grandparents’ in the summer, our sweet Pa Paw would give us each an ice cream sandwich to eat on the back porch. The ice cream would begin to melt and drip down our hands and arms. You seriously just took me back to a super special memory. Never underestimate the power of your words and posts!!

I was wondering if the electronic toothbrushes are the actual way to go. I actually need to go out and buy some more, but I feel so reluctant to pay for these plastic brushes that I know don’t brush my teeth well enough because I’m so rough on the bristles– and my teeth probably– after a few weeks of using! Awww I know!! He seemed so genuine too which is really rare with this show. I wish he had more air time because I feel like there is so much more to his personality too. But yes, it’s soo clear who Hannah is having chemistry with- she’s pretty easy to read, lol!
I was SHOCKED she told Jed that too- just floored. I don’t think the lead has ever said it first?! Have they?! Did Ben his season? I was also stunned that it was Jed… of all of them… I meannnnn, what?! I am definitely bias though knowing everything off air that came out.

I think he’s on Paradise, but his experience was pretty short lived. But, still stoked to see the season! It’s definitely obvious of who she realllly wants to keep around. I still laugh about the scene where Kevin is walking up the stairs and just stands there awkwardly as Hannah is all over Jed!
I don’t remember exactly if Ben said it first, but I do know that he was one of the first bachelors to tell the contestants that he loved them too with Jojo and Lauren, so he probably said I love you more openly as the season ended.
I’ve got a big bias on it too, haha, but I’m still in hopeless denial that it’s Tyler and it’s all just a runaround for us viewers! He’s such a fitting match for her it seems.

Oh, gosh, yes! I somewhat feel that they hyped up that scene too much because it felt underwhelming.
I almost agreed with about 70% of what Luke said, until he started to backtrack like he always does and puts his foot in his mouth! I’m not a fan of him, but I somewhat feel bad that most of Bach nation is dissing on him! Definitely looking for the Men Tell All and to see how the mess plays out!
I knowwww! The thing about Luke is he actually has a good heart it seems and has strong morals that are in line with the Bible, but the way he talks to her and presents certain thoughts is just awful. He does come off so judgmental and is very poorly spoken. It makes me sad because I don’t think he represents Christians in the best light. Also, I think he just isn’t in the best scenario for what he’s looking for! Bachelorette may be the worse show he could have gone on 🤣 I hear Men tell All is good- I am soo stoked!
Oh yeah, that basically sums him up with how he’s held conversations throughout the whole season! It makes me sad to see as well; hopefully people know enough to know that not everyone under a religious or non-religious denomination are similar to just the one bad person being shown everywhere! I’m extremely curious as to why he would want to be on the showing, knowing the premise of the show! I’ve seen clips of the MTA, so I’m looking forward to it! Plus, the memes of the whole season are what’s keeping me alive as well!!

I’m looking forward to Paradise. This is the season that I’m looking forward to even more! I like the fairness of the playing field, which gives it a different edge from the Bachelor/ette. Everyone season is just crazy, so I’m sure this season will be no different!

Yeah, I definitely am team Peter for the next bachelor, but I do like Mike as well! I had my sister watch the final with me and that’s so crazy! I suppose her parents really knew best for her! So curious how it’ll play out between Hannah and Tyler now that they can be somewhat normal without cameras.

I have! I’m so curious what’s going between the two. In the mix of it, it’s funny to read articles of Tyler missing his court date over a car accident.
Oh, goshhh. I mean, Blake really put himself in a terrible position with them all, and having them in all Paradise at the same time!? Insane. The producers definitely took advantage of that to stir up drama even more!
Hah, I know- the headlines are really something right now!! Everyday it feels like there is something new.
They really did take full advantage– it almost feels exploitive, but that’s what the show is about I guess- I think all parties involved were in the wrong in different ways, but the public wants to take sides which can make everything so convoluted. Part of me wants to skip to the after paradise live show to hear their thoughts on everything! But I guess they are kinda using their personal instragrams to do that!
I was excited about seeing a few pics and videos from Jared & Ashley’s wedding, I can’t believed it finally happened!!
I’m excited to see how it all plays out! Two nights of the week to look forward to, so that helps tons! Haha. Also, I wonder about the next bachelor; I remember being slightly disappointed about Arie when they announced him, but that may be due to me not being familiar with who he was. Either way, I was surprised that he was chosen.
I can’t believe how invested I am in a franchise, but here I am 😅
Oh my gosh that wedding looked like the most beautiful fairytale wedding of all time!!! I was living for the insta stories!

Oh my gosh, we use the same toothbrush!! I can’t believe that, lol! Our dentist was always recommending the Phillip’s Sonicare, so we found a Groupon for it about two years ago or so. We love it! I am interested in those fancy minimal Quip electric toothbrushes but I wonder how well they work in comparison. I love the sound of that charcoal toothpaste though! I’d love to whiten my teeth but they are sooo sensitive. I know you have sensitive teeth too, so I assume this toothpaste is okay for sensitivity?!
We were just living that same minimal scene with moving, lol!! We literally just got our furniture so it was about a week in our old apartment and two weeks here without much of anything haha. It helped me appreciate it more I think!

Haha yes!! I actually started to get really sore without furniture to sit on for work and such, lol. We ended up borrowing my in-laws’ camp chairs and that helped.

Although I am not vegan I’ve had those tacos!! A trail runner friend brought them to a potluck one time. They are so delicious! I will have to have a meatless dinner and make them one day! Thanks for the lil recipe!

That ice cream sandwich looks and sounds so good! I love ice cream so much. I love your little study spot. I actually have a similar type setup in the room that I use for my office/book room, haha. I have a bunch of throw pillows and comfy blankets on the floor, so I can lay/sit there to read. I love sunsets and taking pictures of them. I especially love the one with the mountains, so pretty!

LOL! Well I’m glad you at least enjoy It’s It. I kinda wish I’d tried the mint- I loveee mint ice cream. And not to make matter worse but uh… it wasn’t coconut toothpaste- it was charcoal… bahahah. Yep, I’m pretty sure that’s worse.
Ha! Charcoal makes great meat, but I definitely don’t wanna brush my teeth with it.

That Ice Cream Sandwich looks ahhh-mazing!! I’m always in love with a good sunset! I have a charcoal whitening toothpaste. I haven’t necessarily decided whether it’s doing any whitening, but it is really hilarious to look at the grayness while brushing after a lifetime of white toothpaste. lol. Plus, I like that it isn’t filled with junk. I have to be in just the right mood for a chick flick, but I’ll have to give this one a try! 🙂

So I actually just learned, after publishing this, that it could have potentially some long term damaging effects on the enamel- it makes me wary to use it long term, but I am seeing some temporary improvement- will probably put it away after my sister’s wedding! The grayness is definitely soo amusing haha. Took a while to get used!

That ice cream sandwich looks awesome – there was something similar on the market called a “Cookiewich” many years ago, with fresh chocolate chip cookies and a slab of ice cream in between, but not with the lovely chocolate too. I’d hate to leave that treat, Peet’s friendly faces and brews, not to mention those to-die-for sunsets. Bet you were tempted to pack up Smalls while you were getting everything ready for the movers. 🙂
Hehe- can never go wrong with an ice cream sammy of any kind! Ok that cookiewich sounds so yummy! It sounds like a place near us called Cream which DJ actually preferred to this ice cream sandwich.

Yummy indeed and for years in downtown Toronto, there were two big department stores: Eaton’s and Simpsons. They were both large and very competitive. You could walk across Yonge Street to window shop and enter each store that way or go underneath Yonge Street through the “tunnel” to go to either store. In Eaton’s Annex (their side of the tunnel area), they always had a vendor selling hot waffle ice cream sandwiches. Eaton’s was famous for them. They simply toasted two waffles and slapped a slab of ice cream in between them and handed them to you. I think they had a wax paper wrappper of some kind as they were hot. Every time I went downtown with my parents or grandmother, it was a stop we had to make. We would make these treats at home when the convenience stores (even Walgreens in later years) sold small bricks of ice cream, which you could easily slice and put between the hot waffles. I’ve not had any in years, but they sure were good.
Needy child make me LOL. Sorry you couldn’t give Smalls the boot, and must hunker down instead with your fan and festive lights instead. Sigh. Work now, get the test under your belt and then off to more exciting things this weekend … you will dread to come home with all you have to do!

I have seen those ice-cream sandwiches at our grocery stores and thought about picking them up more than a couple of times, but never did. Now that I know there’s a brick and mortar in CA and that you loved it I will most definitely be taking the plunge.
Moving is such a great time to get rid of things-I know we definitely made got rid of things that we had been avoiding getting rid of despite not ever using them! I felt so much lighter afterward! It’s a very addictive feeling and I’m trying to not throw things out for the sake of throwing things out…wish me luck!
I’ve also been watching The Bachelorette and definitely have some opinions on who needs to leave, but we’ll see what happens 😀

I am shocked that DJ had any other tacos besides bison ones lol. They look good! & I tried some charcoal toothpaste at my sister’s place, couldn’t stop laughing at the black teeth. 🤣 But you’re lucky coffee doesn’t stain yours!!
My brother kept telling me to watch that Ali Wong film, he’s a teenage boy & said it was so cute lol. & he knows I am a sucker for predictable chick flicks. I also keep seeing it on everyone’s blog so I’ll have to watch it for sure now. 🙂

LOL yeah, my brother turned it on for me to watch when I was at my dad's house but I couldn't focus at the time. He was like "it's cute" and shrugged his shoulders like he didn't care he was a big, sports-playing teenager so it must be good lol! I've never seen her comedy specials, either.
